Why Study in Alberta
People from across Canada and around the world move to Alberta for many reasons.
Benefit to Alberta
International students are a valuable addition to Alberta’s post-secondary system by strengthening the diversity of perspectives and knowledge within post-secondary institutions. In addition, international students can help build Alberta’s research and innovation potential, and can help to diversify Alberta’s economy and participate in the labour market.
Highest Quality Education
Across our 26 publicly-funded institutions, we have award-winning professors, international curricula, world-class research facilities, libraries and computer labs, along with recognized academic and technical credentialing. The Post-secondary Learning Act requires the Campus Alberta Quality Council to consider the ability of institutions to deliver and sustain high quality degree programs. To meet this goal, all degree programs recommended by the Council and approved by the Minister must offer an education of sufficient breadth and rigour to meet national and international standards of programs at recognized post-secondary institutions. Our institutions offer diplomas, certifications, applied degrees, undergraduate degrees, Master’s, doctoral or post-doctoral degrees. You can pursue a broad range of programs, with transfer possibilities between them.
Economic Growth and Job Possibilities
Alberta’s wealth of natural resources has stimulated unparalleled economic growth that benefits all residents of our province, including international students. We rank number one in Canada on a host of economic criteria: highest employment rate, highest per capita income and highest standard of living. We are the only province in Canada that does not charge a provincial tax. In Alberta, you also have the opportunity to find employment while attending school. International students can work both on campus and off campus during their studies and after they graduate.
The Alberta Adventure
The rugged beauty of the Rocky Mountains draws hikers, climbers, mountain-bikers and naturalists from around the world. Others prefer the vastness of the prairies, and the many preserved provincial and wilderness parks, for camping, exploring the ecosystem or even discovering dinosaur bones.
Post-secondary institutions are found across the province, in dynamic, cosmopolitan cities as well as smaller towns and villages..
